Transfer Station

The Township of Douro-Dummer operates the Halls Glen Transfer Station located at 1951 County Road 6 We accept a variety of garbage, recycling, compost, large items and household waste.

Hours of operation

 May 1st to October 31st

  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday – 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • Sunday – 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday and Thursday – closed

 November 1st to April 30th

  • Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday – 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday - closed
  • Gates close sharp at posted final hour – no exceptions
  • We encourage residents to utilize the curbside pickup services available.

Transfer Station Cards

The Douro-Dummer Transfer Station is available for use by residents of Douro-Dummer. Before entering, please ensure you have your Transfer Station card on hand, as it is required for access. Cards are issued to all residents with their first tax bill. If you need a replacement card, you can purchase one for $25 at the Township Office. We kindly ask that you be respectful to the Transfer Station staff during your visit.

Fees

Review our disposal fees:

  • $3 per bag of garbage
  • $3 for materials weighing less than 13.6 kg (30 lbs)
  • $150 per tonne for loads greater than 13.6 kg
  • For appliances containing Freon, an additional $27 fee is charged as well as the per tonne cost

We are currently only accepting debit payments.

We accept bagged garbage, blue box recycling and food waste as well as:

  • Loose garbage in clear bags
  • Scrap metal
  • Scrap wood
  • Electronic waste
  • Propane tanks
  • Used oil
  • Tires 

Please note that mattresses and box-springs are not accepted.

Waste disposal rules

Please follow all standard waste disposal rules:

  • Respect transfer station staff, staff decisions are final
  • Garbage must be placed in clear bags
  • Blue box recycling must be sorted (containers and fibres)
  • Only food waste is allowed in the Moloks (no yard waste, packaging or bags)

We accept the following household waste items at our events:

  • Aerosols
  • Antifreeze
  • Automotive fluids
  • Batteries
  • Cleaners
  • Cosmetics and make-up
  • Fertilizers
  • Fluorescent light tubes and bulbs
  • Gasoline (containers will not be returned)
  • Glues and caulking
  • Herbicides
  • Hot tub chemicals
  • Ink cartridges
  • Mercury containing devices
  • Motor oil (containers will not be returned)
  • Oil filters
  • Paints and coatings
  • Pesticides
  • Propane cylinders (50kg/100lbs maximum)
  • Sealants and stains
  • Soap
  • Toiletries

What items are not accepted?

The following items are not accepted at these events:

  • Bio-medical waste
  • Commercial hazardous waste
  • Explosives (including firecrackers and ammunition)
  • Pharmaceuticals (return these to a pharmacy)
  • Sharps and needles (return these to a pharmacy)

Bush, leaf and yard waste

Bush, leaf or yard waste is not accepted at the Halls Glen Transfer Station. You can dispose of this material at:

Construction and demolition waste is not accepted at the Halls Glen Transfer Station, but can be disposed of at the following locations:

Can I drop off my blue box material at the Halls Glen Transfer Station?

Yes, blue box recycling is available at all Transfer Stations in Peterborough County at no charge to residents.

Recycling needs to be placed loose (no bagged materials) into the appropriate containers or papers bin.
