Douro-Dummer's innovative Sustainable Development Program was launched early 2020 as Canada's first embodied carbon reduction program for building construction. It provides at this time a 40% permit fee rebate on all approved projects that meet the required greenhouse gas reduction targets, or an 80% permit fee rebate with combined with net-zero ready construction.

On February 11th, 2020, the Township officially launched the Sustainable Development Program by presentation to an audience over 100 attendees. A release kit is available upon request and the media release was published that day.

Unfortunately, due to COVID, the program did not have significant uptake or resources to continue on. The next steps of the program are anticipating grant funding and a more robust embodied carbon calculator prepared by our partners.
